Rasio perbandingan radiator coolant untuk Indonesia ternyata yang cocok bukan 50:50


Setelah artikel sebelumnya menjelaskan tentang bagaimana penambahan lebih banyak aditif anti karat / anti beku justru mengurangi performa cairan pendingin dan membuat sistem pendingin lebih tidak efisien, penulis mencoba mencari tahu radiator coolant apa yang cocok untuk dipakai di Indonesia.

Berdasarkan referensi yang sama, ternyata disebutkan bahwa untuk di Indonesia, radiator coolant yang cocok justru yang aditifnya dikurangi:
Things you should know about coolant

While pure water has the highest possible heat capacity, it’s not quite the ideal automotive coolant. Aside from freezing, water can also corrode the inside of engine blocks, radiators, and water pumps. We need to have something in there to keep iron blocks from rusting up and water pump bearings and seals from failing. Anti-freeze contains these necessary additives and most auto manufacturers have pretty specific requirements on the types of coolant you can use. So, for the most part it’s a good idea to put some of the recommended coolant into the system, however, if done at a lower ratio, the cooling capabilities of the car will improve. If you live in a warm climate, it’s not a bad idea to drop the coolant: water ratio down to 25 or so percent to gain cooling capacity without losing the anti-corrosion and lubrication properties (although it will be necessary to change the coolant more often if you do this because anti-freeze degrades over time).

Bagian yang terakhir yang penting. Disarankan untuk daerah dengan cuaca hangat untuk mengurangi rasio hingga mencapai 25% coolant dan 75% air.

Dan memang sudah ada yang mengalami peristiwa overheat saat pakai coolant yang rasionya 50:50.

coolant/anit-freeze mix for tropics?

We have moved from a 50 /50 solution to 60 distilled / 40 non-toxic poly-glycol mixture. We did this due to some overheating issues that we experienced in the south during the warmer months. I spent a lot of time tearing down the heat exchanger before coming to this solution.

A 30-70 mixture of coolant/water is ideal for the hottest of climates at 100-120 Fareinheit. Moderate climates should use a 50/50 mixture, and very cold climates should use a 60/40 mix depending on how far the temp dips below 0 degrees Fareinheit.

30% antifreeze and 70% distilled water is OK for tropical spore.
50/50 is always the recommeded mixture as the 50% antifreeze will provide the necessary lub for the water pump bearing and prevent rust formation in the system

Coolant Mix and Overheating

Why a rich mix gives less cooling:
First of all, in this article, we refer to the stuff you buy simply as “antifreeze.” It comes under many different trade names, and for automotive applications, is usually ethylene glycol. We’ll just call it “antifreeze.”

Now if you’ve ever poured the stuff into a radiator, you no doubt observed that it is much “syrup-i-er” than water. That is, it has a much higher viscosity. This means that it will not flow as fast through the system as water, and the cooling effect will be less.

Further, the specific heat of antifreeze is less than that of water. This means that for a given temperature change, the antifreeze will carry less heat each time it circulates from engine to radiator and back.

So, if the mix is too rich, the cooling efficiency will be reduced because (1) the flow rate is less, and (2) less heat is transferred per cycle of the coolant.

The manufacturer’s recommendation:
The standard recommendation is to use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. This represents a compromise between cooling efficiency and the ability to prevent the mix from freezing during cold weather. After all, the initial purpose of antifreeze is to prevent freezing.

But a 50/50 mix does not give the best cooling. For improved cooling in hot weather, we should use less antifreeze and more water, perhaps going to a 25/75 or a 20/80 mix ratio.

Everyone knows antifreeze prevents corrosion, and corrosion is bad. True enough. But, even a 10/90 ratio of antifreeze to water will serve the puproses of inhibiting corrosion, at least according to one source of information.

Temperature drops ranging from 10 – 15 F are typically obtained by decreasing the mix from 50/50 down to 25/75 or perhaps 20/80.

 

Inti dari artikel diatas adalah, cairan anti karat / anti beku bukan pendingin yang baik. Jadi makin banyak anti karat / anti bekunya, makin berkurang pula daya pendinginan. Ini dapat menyebabkan overheat. Bila yang diperlukan hanya anti karat, maka campuran yang hanya 10% anti karat pun katanya sudah cukup. Angka yang sering disarankan adalah 30%.

Disitu terlihat jelas bahwa yang air thok hasilnya sangat bagus. Sementara kalau pakai coolant bawaan pabrik hasilnya tidak memadai.

 

Cuma masalahnya, radiator coolant mana yang bisa seperti itu. Masa harus mencampur sendiri? Beli air suling di apotik lalu dicampur sama pure coolant yang tersedia di pasaran? Soalnya ragu sama kualitas pure coolant yang dijual di pasaran.

Radiator yang saya temui di Giant tidak ada yang rasionya seperti itu kecuali kalau mau campur sendiri. Kebanyakan malah tidak ditulis.

    • Terima kasih infonya. Mungkin sebenarnya cuma coolant merek lain saja yang terlalu rendah levelnya.

      saya sebenarnya sudah beli coolant pertamina, tapi bengkel resminya bilang bisa menggugurkan garansi. akhirnya terpaksa ngalah dan milih nambahi air aqua saja.

        • Yang tahu pemakainya. masak ya sudah pakai radiator mesin masih bisa overheat kala macet, padahal yang lain sama – sama kena macet tidak overheat, padahal yang lain tidak pakai radiator.

          Masa ya pendinginan jadi lebih payah setelah pakai radiator.

            • Motor saya Suzuki Spin. Soal air radiator, artikel ini bermula dari mengikuti perbincangan di grup CB150R streetfire. Ada beberapa yang bilang mesin overheat saat macet, lalu yang sering main di sirkuit kenjeran bilang motor harus istirahat karena sudah panas.

              Ada yang punya Innova D4D yang dengan engine scanner bilang bahwa suhu coolant tidak mengikuti perubahan suhu oli mesin, padahal harusnya sama.

              Saya juga mengalami sendiri di Mobil Ayla, jalan jauh tidak panas ruang mesinnya, tapi setelah ditambah air jalan sebentar saja ruang mesin panas sekali, panas dari mesin jadi dikeluarkan lebih baik,.

Temperature kerja ideal dari mesin sekitar 90 derajat celcius. Sementara di contoh diatas suhu mencapai lebih dari 215°F (101° celcius).
