Hubungan Dovi dengan Dall’Igna bila dilihat dari sudut pandang Lorenzo tidak buruk?


Manuel Pacino menyebutkan bahwa hubungan antara Andrea Dovizioso dan Gigi Dall’Igna tidak baik:

Yang pertama adalah soal gaji. Memang sih gaji dari Dovizioso lebih kecil, tapi disebut itu keputusan dari semua petinggi Ducati, tapi sepertinya selain Dall’Igna:

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali, Team Manager Paolo Ciabatti and Simone Battistella (Andrea Dovizioso’s manager) met several times during the race weekend, but no agreement was found, because the parties remain in the same positions: Ducati keeps proposing 5 milion euros, but Dovizioso wants 6.

Jadi seharusnya soal gaji bukan sumber hubungan buruk Dovi dengan Dall’Igna. Karena itu keputusan bosnya Ducati.

Gaji Lorenzo disebut 12 juta euro, dan jadi alasan bagi Dovi untuk tidak kasih feedback:

Namun uniknya, itu justru jadi alasan kedua, Dovi mengeluh Ducati hanya menanggapi serius permintaan Lorenzo saja. Karena modifikasi yang diminta Lorenzo juga pernah diminta Dovizioso beberapa tahun lalu.

Nggak jelas, itu Dovi nggak pingin kasih feedback, Dovi jengkel feedback nggak digubris, atau memang feedback Dovi nggak konsisten?

Memang ada yang bilang bahwa Gigi Dall’Igna mengundang Lorenzo untuk membuat motor Ducati lebih Yamaha:

No doubt one of the reasons Dall’Igna wanted to get his former Aprilia rider Jorge Lorenzo on board was to bring some of the Yamaha YZR-M1’s user-friendliness to the Desmosedici, which is exactly what’s happening, according to Lorenzo’s chief engineer Cristian Gabbarini.

“The base is good and for sure we are working in Jorge’s direction,” says Gabbarini, who last worked at Ducati when he was Stoner’s crew chief. “I think next year the bike will be closer to Jorge’s riding style. Many of his comments matched what other riders were saying, so Ducati is pushing to improve the bike in that direction.”

Namun Ducati sendiri tidak keberatan bila motor dikembangkan ke dua arah, satu untuk Lorenzo, satu lagi untuk Dovizioso:

The Spaniard and the Italian have slightly different riding techniques, but they aren’t night-and-day different. And Ducati can happily cope with moving forward in two not-quite-parallel directions.

It’s no problem to go two ways,” affirms Gabbarini. “For sure it’s more effort for the factory, but the positive is that you can learn more because you can take positive things from both directions. I think if we can improve some areas of the bike for Jorge, then every Ducati rider will enjoy the improvements. Yes, it’s possible to get lost going when you go in two directions, but Gigi is very good at understanding when is the time to say yes or no.”

Soal aero juga Ducati cari jalan tengah yang bisa membuat Lorenzo lebih mudah belok dan masih cukup lincah untuk Dovi.

Dall’Igna and his aerodynamics engineers are also working hard on the GP18’s bodywork. Last season Dovizioso and Lorenzo went their own ways with aero, Dovizioso only racing the hammerhead fairing at the Red Bull Ring, where three long straights preceded by first-gear corners make front downforce essential to reducing wheelies. At other tracks he didn’t like the way it affected turning and changing direction, so he stuck with the conventional fairing. Lorenzo, however, loved the revised hammerhead from Brno onwards, because the downforce it generated gave him improved front-end contact through corners. Dall’Igna’s challenge is to find a compromise for Dovizioso, which will give him less wheelie out of corners and more front-end contact into corners, without making the bike heavier to steer.

Entah modif apa yang disebut sudah diminta Dovi duluan.

Rasanya nggak tepat juga bila dibilang Ducati serius menanggapi permintaan Lorenzo, karena dari kutipan berikut, justru terkesan malas.

Bila disebut Gigi Dall’Igna nggak percaya sama Dovizioso, Lorenzo justru merasa Ducati nggak percaya dengan Lorenzo. Ia anggap kritik dan semua tekanan timbul karena Ducati nggak percaya penuh sama Lorenzo, dan itulah yang membuat Lorenzo malas untuk tetap di Ducati:

Ducati believed in me too late.

I received many criticisms and I suffered a lot from the fact that Ducati didn’t believe in me completely.

Gigi [Dall’Igna] believed in me but not 100 percent. If he and the engineers would have believed in me, maybe I could have remained with Ducati.

Walau Dovizioso iri gaji Lorenzo lebih tinggi, Lorenzo sendiri bilang itu sudah diskon, karena gaji yang Lorenzo terima Ducati justru lebih rendah dari penawaran lain, karena ingin menang di motor lain:

I joined Ducati to win, not for the money, because the difference from the offer I had was of 10 to 15 percent. My goal was to try and win with another manufacturer.

Lorenzo yakin bila motor disesuaikan dengan dirinya, ia pasti dapat hasil bagus.

I knew that if things were done in my way, results would have arrived. It happened the same 15 years ago when I was in 125cc; I strongly believed I could win with the Derbi and I did it. The same with Ducati.

Perlu diingat juga bahwa Dall’Igna pingin motor Ducati bisa belok lebih baik di tengah tikungan:

After Gigi Dall’Igna joined, crankshaft rotation was changed to improve steering. Now the factory is working to make the Desmosedici more like the other bikes through the crucial mid-corner phase.

Sementara itu, kemampuan belok Dovi lebih payah daripada Petrucci:

Di balapan memang sering terlihat Dovi kalah di tikungan saat beradu dengan Petrucci. Menangnya kalau di lintasan lurus.
